Scott Speedman, who plays Dr. Nick Marsh in Grey’s Anatomy, has been chosen to lead the cast of the new ABC series RJ Decker. Many know Speedman for his character in the medical drama, but the actor isn’t new to the TV world. He originally rose to prominence via his role as Ben Covington in Felicity. Now, Speedman is taking on a headlining role.
According to a report from Deadline, Speedman is set to star as the titular character in the pilot of RJ Decker. The drama, created by Rob Doherty of Elementary fame, is based on Carl Hiaasen’s 1987 book Double Whammy, centering around Speedman’s character.
RJ Decker is a “disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con” who decides to become a private investigator in South Florida, but that only scratches the surface of his character. Since the announcement only constitutes a pilot order, the network hasn’t ordered RJ Decker to series yet. If it does, though, one can’t help but wonder what this means for Nick in Grey’s Anatomy.
What Scott Speedman’s New TV Show Means For His Role In Grey’s Anatomy
Speedman Will Still Appear In The Long-Running ABC Series
The good news is that Speedman’s casting in RJ Decker won’t interfere with his work on Grey’s Anatomy (at least, according to Deadline‘s sources). If ABC orders RJ Decker to series, the plan is for Speedman to do both shows. So, the actor can lead the cast of the new ABC drama pilot and also play Meredith Grey’s love interest in Grey’s Anatomy.
Our Take On Speedman’s Casting In RJ Decker
The Actor Has The Ability To Lead A TV Show
Speedman has had a handful of memorable TV roles over the course of his career, from Ben in Felicity to Nick in Grey’s Anatomy. Now, though, he has the chance to headline his own show, which is quite exciting. It also helps that RJ Decker sounds perfect for him.
The actor’s character is described as “someone who has charm to spare and the owner of a short fuse and a restless soul.” If anyone can pull that off, it’s Speedman. Hopefully, the Grey’s Anatomy star gets the chance to do so, and ABC orders RJ Decker to series.
